The South Beach Diet: An Effective Diet Plan
September 3rd, 2010Are you planning a healthy diet that has manageable steps rather than one big drastic change? There are a lot of healthy eating sites in the internet today that offer diet plans that are effective and have good results.
One of the most famous diet plans is the South Beach Diet. It was created in the early 90s by cardiologist Arthur Agatston and dietician Marie Almon as an alternative to a low-fat diet. The purpose of this diet is to prevent heart disease in Dr. Agatston’s patients. The South Beach Diet is based around eating the correct carbohydrates and the correct fats as opposed to cutting them out together. Dr. Agatston believed that this would result in more weight loss and better long-term results after the diet had finished. The South Beach Diet limits carbohydrates. South Beach replaces bad carbohydrates and bad fats with good carbohydrates and good fats. It really boils fats and carbohydrates. It bans unhealthy fats but strongly promotes healthy ones. The South Beach Diet has three basic phases, each phase has a different goal and a different diet scheme.
Phase 1 is basically a low carbohydrates diet. It will last for two weeks and the period where you loss more weight. Phase 1 allows eating three big meals a day and some mandatory snacks. It all consists of meats, eggs, cheeses, and vegetables. Avoid eating bread, pasta, rice, or fruit. By following this specific plan, you can correct the way your body reacts to food.
Phase 2 is simple and basically reintroduces the correct carbohydrates that are said to be good for your health and your weight. Like fruits and some whole grain foods. Phase 2 gives you the freedom to pick which of these foods you add back into your diet. Add these foods to one meal a day and, if your body responds well, then slowly introduce more.
Phase 3 is the final and least restrictive, it is a label for the rest of your life. It is a phase where they tell you to go off into the world armed with the knowledge you learned during the first two stages.
The South Beach Diet has no specific list of permitted and prohibited foods. People who take this kind of diet must understand the basic principles of the diet and live by the principles. The best thing about the South Beach Diet is that it’s easy to dine while following the principles of the program. You can continue to lose weight and improve your health no matter what phase you’re on.
